TIAS Summit
Asia Business Journal, with the support of the Trade & Industry Association Singapore (TIAS), organised the Trade & Industry Summit 2015, which was held on May 18th and 19th 2015. Featuring a comprehensive programme, The Summit kicked off with the CEO Masterclass on May 18th at the Furama Waterfront Hotel, which was attended by 30 local business owners and foreign delegates representing the Pacific Islands Trade & Invest (PT&I;) led by Trade Commissioner Mr Michael Greenslade, as well as the International Business Council (IBC) of Sri Lanka, led by Mr Kosala Wickramanayake.
The Masterclass featured key presentations from business leaders and prominent academics, a CEO Dialogue Panel providing a deeper insight into Singapore's SME landscape, and opportunities to expand the participants' business networks with the foreign delegates.
The second day of the Summit began with a technology sharing session at the National University of Singapore. Focused on pioneering research by NUS professors in the offshore, marine, and energy industries, TIAS members were introduced to their research and the applied technologies, as well as schemes that will enable companies to work with NUS to use the technologies for their businesses, including the Partnership for Capability Transformation Scheme, or PACT. Participants were also given a guided tour through the NUS laboratories and gained a more concise understanding on the explorative technologies that sprung from within.
Ending the Summit on a high note is the Gala Night, where TIAS members, foreign delegates, and recipients of the TIAS Singapore Marine Distinguished Awards (SMDA) 2015 and Asia Pacific Brands Awards (APBA) 2015 congregated in Resorts World Sentosa for a sumptuous dinner. VIPs who graced the event include Guest-of-Honour Mr Zainudin Nordin, Member of Parliament for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC and President of the Football Association of Singapore, as well as Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon, former MP for Holland-Bukit Timah GRC.
Attendees were treated to exhilarating performances ranging from aerial hoop and silk to a modern take on the Chinese art of "face-changing", and celebrated the achievements of the award winners. Various Memoranda of Understanding were also signed between TIAS, PT&I;, IBC Sri Lanka, ACE Seniors, the Singapore Institute of Purchasing and Materials Management, and the Singapore Numismatic Association.
